DAVID, Gerard
Netherlandish Northern Renaissance Painter, ca.1460-1523
Netherlandish painter. He is known as the last of the 'Flemish Primitives'. Although born in the northern Netherlands, he moved to Bruges as a young man, and most of his work expresses the impassive, unmannered, microscopically realistic approach peculiar to south Netherlandish art in the time of Jan van Eyck. David was skilled at synthesizing the art of several important south Netherlandish predecessors, adapting, for instance, the compositions of van Eyck and the technique of Hugo van der Goes. He was also influenced by Hans Memling, Related Paintings of DAVID, Gerard :. | The Rest on the Flight into Egypt sfgs | Pilate's Dispute with the High Priest fdg | Triptych of Jan Des Trompes (rear of the wings) tye | Triptych of Jean Des Trompes (detail) dfg | The Marriage at Cana (detail) dsg | Related Artists: Giovanni Paolo Pannini1691-1765

Giovanni Paolo Pannini Galleries
Italian painter. After gaining fame for his fresco painting, he specialized in Roman topography and became the foremost artist in that field in the 18th century. His real and imaginary views of ancient Roman ruins embody precise observation and tender nostalgia and combine elements of late classical Baroque art with incipient Romanticism. His work was popular both with tourists and his peers: he was admitted to the Acad??mie Française in 1732 and became its professor of perspective.
